The *real* first day of school

Dear Twyns,

Today was your first day of Kindergarten! Mommy and Daddy had a lot of drama getting you ready! We were so excited, I think we made it worse.

Little guy, you had a hard time at the 'bus practice day' a week ago and would not get on the bus, so we were worried about this morning.

We went to two more visits to the school this week and both of you started to get excited about Kindergarten instead of nervous.

We got your teacher assignments last night and were very happy you have two great teachers and you'll get a chance to make a lot of new school friends since we learned you will not be with your besties :(.

We made you a big breakfast with your favorites: waffles, strawberries, bacon, and eggs (well, those last ones were for mommy's sake.) We were going for Disney Cruise Breakfast Buffet. Did we nail it?

Dude, you got syrup on your blue shirt so Daddy got upset because you had to wear your green shirt, and for some reason he did not want to immortalize the green shirt in your 'first day' photos forever. But Daddy is cray.

We were packing up your two healthy snacks for the day and I put them in your outside pocket of your backpacks. Daddy was worried the grapes would get smushed so he put them in a tupperware at the last minute. What was that bit about Daddy being cray? Maybe cray-cray.

We took photos outside and walked to the bus stop.

Little sweetheart, you got a little worried when another mommy started complaining about the bus. But Daddy helped talk you through your anxiety. And mommy gave that other mommy the evil eye.

Dude, you were very excited and even ran to meet your neighborhood bestie so he could ride the bus with you.

Then the bus finally came and, in the excitement, little guy, you tripped and fell and skinned your shin. So you started crying and wouldn't get on the bus. So mommy pried your hands from around her neck and passed you off to Daddy, who tried to get you on the bus but it just wasn't happening. You were crying too much even though two minutes before you were very happy and playing with your friends.

So we walked home and Daddy was upset he missed the little girl getting on the bus. He drove you to school.

Daddy took a photo of sweet girl coming *off* the bus at school and that made him happy. Sweetheart, you were wondering what he was doing there!! Dude, you saw your bestie and played on the playground with him a little bit before everyone got to their teachers' rooms in their proper place (along with your backpacks, which Daddy had to move at the last minute.) And that was the beginning of the first day of school today!

I hope you BOTH come home on the bus this afternoon and ride the bus in the morning tomorrow! We'll call it a dress rehearsal today. Mommy always says: "awful rehearsal, great performance." We love you so much and are so proud of you!

We love you,
Mommy & Daddy

So, of course the photos of Mommy & you are in Daddy's phone,
so I'll put them on the blog sometime in the next decade.

now back to our regularly scheduled sewing & fitness routines...

My kid never looked back. Not once. Just like duh mom, school. I guess it is a good thing, but I did think she would be just a touch nervous!

    1. Haha! Brave face?! That's my little girl usually.

  2. Well, it's a great story. I'd expect nothing less from you guys! Love 'ya! Miss 'ya! Mean it! :-)

    1. We did everything we could to avoid the drama! It just comes to us, I swear ;) MISS YOU TOO!!
